What is a charter school?
A charter school is a tuition-free public school that operates under a performance contract. This allows us to offer a specialized classical curriculum while meeting high academic and financial standards set by the state.
Is tuition required for my child to attend?
No. As a public charter school, Queen Anne’s Classical is entirely tuition-free. We believe that a high-quality, content-rich classical education should be accessible to every family in our community.
How do charter schools differ from traditional public schools?
While both are public schools, charter schools have the flexibility to adopt specific educational models — like our classical liberal arts approach. This focus allows us to provide a unique learning environment tailored to our families’ needs.
What is a classical education?
Rooted in the traditions of Western civilization, classical education uses the Trivium — Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric — to give students the tools for gaining and using knowledge, matched to how children naturally learn at each stage. Core subjects include reading, mathematics, science, history, Latin, and the arts, taught through methods including Socratic dialogue and project-based learning.
Who can attend, and what grades will you serve?
QACCS will serve all students from across Queen Anne’s County. The school plans to open with grades K–3 and approximately 176 seats, growing to serve up to 400 students across grades K–8, with class sizes of approximately 20–22 students.
How will admission work?
As a public school, admission is free and open to all. If more families apply than there are seats available, Maryland law requires that seats be assigned by public random selection — a lottery — so that every applying family has an equal chance.
Will the school serve multilingual learners and students with special needs?
Yes — this model is proven where it matters most. QACCS will offer dual-language support for multilingual learners and meet all government education requirements, including special education services and mandated State assessments. Our board includes a specialist in supporting students with learning differences in classical school settings, and the mastery-paced approach is a particular boon to students whom traditional schooling moves past too quickly.
What does “Go Slow to Go Fast” mean?
It is our pacing philosophy: students master each concept fully before the class advances. A child who truly owns the foundation accelerates in later grades, while a child rushed past it struggles for years. We use Singapore Math and a developmental, concept-first sequence, and we aim beyond the state’s proficiency levels — not at them.
How much screen time will students have?
Very little, by design. QACCS is a low-technology school: teachers, books, discussion, and practice do the teaching. Memorization and recitation build a lasting foundation of knowledge that no tablet can substitute for.
When will the school open?
Planned occupancy is Fall 2027, subject to charter approval by the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education. Families who join our founding families list will be notified the moment enrollment opens.
